Sania Mirza, an ace and professional Indian tennis player, was born on 15th November, 1986 in Mumbai, India. She has residential houses in Dubai and in Sialkot in Pakistan, as she is married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. She stands as the highest ranked woman tennis player, both in singles and doubles form, among the tennis playing women of India. Sania Mirza has the credit of playing against top tennis players of the world like Svetlana Kuznetsova, Marion Batroli, the ever great and former world number one Martina Hingis, Dinara Safina and Victoria Azarenka and Sania had notable wins over them in some matches.

Sania Mirza has won WTA Tour title and winner of the major titles in Mixed doubles event of Australia open in 2009 and French Open in 2012. Her world rank in singles is 27 and her doubles rank is 7. She has made India proud on many events and occasions. Currently, she has been appointed as the brand ambassador of recently formed Telungana State. She has established that she is one among the top women in India. She is the third Indian woman to win a round at a grand slam event after Nirupama Vaidyanathan at the 1998 Australian open and Shikha Uberoi at the 2004 US open.

As a junior player, Sania Mirza has won 10 singles titles and 13 doubles titles. In 2003, she won the doubles championship of Wimbledon and reached the semi finals of the doubles event in 2003 French open. She has played well in almost all tournaments and she has won three medals namely gold and silver medals in mixed doubles and singles in the Doha Asian Games. In most of the events, she happened to play with top ranking women tennis players and proved her worth.

Sania Mirza played much better in doubles event than singles. She has toured all over the world to play various tennis tournaments and she did India proud in most of the events. On certain occasions her rank slumped but she managed to get back to rhythm and is now playing many tennis events. In recognition of her service to the Nation, the Government of India has awarded her the Arjuna Award in 2004 and the coveted Padma Shri title in the year 2006.

It is true that there were not many women tennis players In India to become popular worldwide and in that way only a few had earned international reputation and Sania Mirza stands top among them.
