With exploding technology in laser systems, the newer lasers can effectively remove unwanted body hair with a minimal amount of pain (although some body sites may need pretreatment with a topical anesthetic). Several treatments may be required for a given site.

The FDA has recently approved a topical prescription cream (Vaniqa®) that slows and diminishes hair growth on a certain skin sites. When used in combination with laser hair removal, the ultimate cosmetic end point can be greatly accelerated. There are other topical products (i.e. soy proteases) which also slow and diminish hair growth that will be available in the near future.
